Development Coordinator

We seek 1 full-time Development Coordinator who will play a critical role in securing financial support for Embrave during a period of fundraising growth. The Development Coordinator will support in the development and growth of the fundraising program with innovative ideas and creative additions. Working closely with the Manager of Development, staff and volunteers, the Development Coordinator will provide support to fundraising activities to achieve development and marketing goals, with responsibility for volunteer engagement, gift processing and database management. The Development Coordinator will also provide support to special events, direct mail, donor recognition, and annual/monthly giving, as well as cultivate selected new and current donors.

Overview of Responsibilities

• Work from a feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, gender inclusion, decolonizing, and harm reduction framework.
• Provide support with Embrave’s annual fundraising events (including The Celebrave Gala, The Purple Tie Luncheon, and The Annual Steps to End Violence Walk) and work closely with the Fundraising Committee and staff to bring these events to fruition.
• Provide administrative support to fundraising initiatives, including the Fundraising Committee, third party events and other relevant activities or groups
• Strengthen donor database, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and accuracy of donor records, reports and mailing lists
• Support with the development of innovative grant proposals and applications as needed.
• Develop and maintain lead/activity tracking system for fundraising initiatives, including special events, foundation proposals, donor recognition and stewardship
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of communication and fundraising materials such as direct mail campaigns, newsletters, e-communications as needed.
• Coordinate and support internal/external communications (i.e., monthly e-news; funding proposals, presentations and correspondence)
• Conduct proactive identification and detailed research of prospective donors through business and news sources, print and online databases and interaction with community, staff and volunteers
• Coordinate and facilitate the in-kind donation programs
• Coordinate and track development activities related to special events, direct mail, donor recognition, and annual/monthly giving
• Engage in awareness building on social media to promote public education and foster understanding of the organization, its mission and vision; as well as issues surrounding Gender Based Violence (GBV).

• Assist in the recruitment and management of development student interns and volunteers
• Other duties as assigned, may include donor research, proposal writing, media relations
• Manage a portfolio of donors, prospects and volunteers, as assigned by the Manager of Development, to strengthen their relationship with Embrave, with a goal of securing financial donations for priority needs
• Attend evening and weekend events occasionally
• Participate in internal committees.
• Adhere to all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures as outlined by the organization to minimize risks.
• Participate in ensuring 24-7 back up supports for the 24 hours services as needed on a rotational basis.

Key Qualifications:

• Post secondary education in Marketing or Fundraising, or 2+ years of related experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of donor databases and email distribution systems (such as MailChimp, Constant Contact), HMTL, WordPress and CSS.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills
• Familiarity with design applications including the Adobe Suite and Canva would be an asset
• Experience working in a social service/social justice organization and within a feminist, anti-racism and anti-oppression, harm reduction and disability justice framework.
• Understanding of gender-based violence as a complex social problem and the intersectionality of sexism, racism, classism, colonialism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, sanism, etc on survivors and their children’s lived experience of violence.
• Experience in community engagement and knowledge of using technology and social media (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) to reach target audiences is an asset.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proven ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines
• Thrives in a high-paced environment
• Ability and willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Knowledge of fundraising methods, including prospect research, direct mail solicitation, major gifts, proposal writing, planned giving and special events would be an asset
• Highly ethical with confidential and sensitive information
• Fluency in additional languages would be an asset
Scope and Accountabilities:
The Embrave Agency to End Violence fundraising team (ED, Leadership team and fundraising volunteers) will work closely together, and this position will report to the Development Manager.

Hours of Work

Full Time job (37.5 hours per week). Occasional evening and weekend work when required.
