The Special Event Planner will provide support to Development and Education Manager through event planning and supporting with strategic marketing and social media engagement.
Purpose of Position
The Special Event Planner (Contract-Summer student), will provide support to the Development and Education Manager. This is nine (9) weeks contract and functions include Development and Education Program-related projects. This includes:
What to expect in the Special Event Planner Role:
- Support in the development of plans and organizing of upcoming events
- Support in the development and implementation of an outreach strategy for advocacy initiatives and events
- Support the social media portfolio weekly via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedinn
- Provide timely social media updates/engagement via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedinn related to our communities, and our special events
- Assist with the daily compilation of press clippings and research related to the issues of VAW advocacy with respect to issues of interest
- Provide administrative support to Violence Against Woman (VAW) advocacy initiatives
- Support with administrative duties such as record notes and writing minutes for committee meetings
- Assist in coordinating and tracking development activities related to social media outreach
- Assist in delivering development trainings materials, presentations and public education trainings to employees and other organizations
- Assist in planning and engaging in awareness building on social media to promote public education and foster understanding ofthe organization, its mission and vision; as well as issues surrounding Gender Based Violence (GBV) Work from a feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, gender inclusion, decolonizing, and harm reduction framework
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures as outlined by the organization to minimize risks
- Ensure adherence to all Embrave Policies and Procedures
- Attend evening and weekend events occasionally
- Perform other tasks as instructed by the the Development and Education Manager
What you bring to the table:
- Microsoft Office skills and proficiency in database applications and design software including Photoshop
- Highly knowledgeable about Social Media platforms such as, Instagrams, Twitter, Facebook, Weebly, Linkedin and Hootsuite
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Ability and willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends
- Highly ethical with confidential and sensitive information
- Fluency in additional languages would be an asset
- Knowledge of Peel based networks, collaboratives and organizations representing diverse ethno-cultural groups or the ability to make such connections an asset
- Some knowledge of women’s issues and anti-oppression
- A feminist, anti-racist and anti-oppression analysis of violence against women
Hour of Work: Monday to Friday – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, 35 hours weekly, 7 hours/day
Pay Rate: $22.20 per hour + vacation 4%
